Bottomline Technologies — iOS Healthcare App Tutorial
Objective
The goal was to make the form-fill process on mobile more accessible, intuitive, and less burdensome, while helping staff focus on patient care rather than troubleshooting software. I also designed a tutorial experience to support first-time users and reduce onboarding friction.
My Role
- I served as the Lead UX/UI Designer responsible for:
- Researching user context and accessibility needs
- Designing the onboarding experience and tutorial
- Creating screen flows, interactions, and visual assets for iOS
Key Design Solution - First-Time User Tutorial
- To help new users feel confident using the iPad app, I designed a contextual, layered tutorial that:
- Highlighted core actions like Save, Lock, Zoom, and Print
- Used callouts with hand gestures to teach swipe, tap, and pinch interactions
- Applied a grey overlay to direct focus while keeping the UI visible underneath
- Balanced instructional clarity with a clean and friendly tone
- Allowed users to dismiss the tutorial or walk through at their own pace
Impact
- Reduced onboarding time for new users by surfacing key features up front
- Helped minimize training needs across facilities with varying tech maturity
- Created a scalable tutorial model reusable in other product modules
- Received positive feedback from internal trainers and client success leads
Healthcare facilities often had a limited number of desktops, making it difficult for clinical staff to complete digital forms during patient intake. The need for a native iOS solution arose to give providers more flexibility and improve bedside workflows.
Primary users included nurses, care coordinators, and patient representatives working in fast-paced healthcare environments.
